Many references to [Great] grandmother Knight's old book' [Elizabeth Knight, died 3/7/1775 aged 57, wife of Charles Colyer of Framingham]. Recipe book compiled by the Colyer and Knight families. The last entry appears to be a note of an article on 'Old wives' cures' from the Daily Mail, 13/9/1916 on the back of an old envelope. Also contains correspondence and newspaper cuttings.

This document traces the lineage and legacy of the Colyer family, beginning with Charles Colyer in 1716 and concluding with Henry Colyer, who lived from 1743 to 1783 and who is credited with founding the book. It captures the generational journey of the Colyer family and preserves their heritage for future generations. On the first page of the Remarks section, there is a notable recipe addressing depression, titled 'The Low Spirits–Sucking (called by me the Horrors)'. This remedy, which became well-known within the text, was contributed by Mr. Dan of London, who credits the recipe with saving his life. The index reveals that the recipes cover a wide range of ailments, both human and animal. These include treatments for Asthma, Abscesses, Bloody Flux, Balsams, Bronchitis, and various breast-related conditions such as broken breasts, cored breasts, and swelling from milk. Other remedies address Coughs, Cramp, Diarrhoea, Dropsy, Flux, Fits, Graves, Gout, Gripes, and Inflammation. There are also specific treatments for eye conditions, both inflamed and weak eyes. Additionally, the collection includes cures for Piles, Pimples, Poison, and even ailments affecting cattle of all kinds.
