Doreen Bottomley trained as a midwife at St. James's Hospital, Leeds, and became a registered midwife in 1937.
Items relating to Doreen Bottomley, a pupil midwife at St. James's Hospital, Leeds. Includes a black and white postcard photograph of Doreen Bottomley holding two children in her midwife's uniform and standing next to her husband David (c1939), a group black and white photograph of medical and nursing staff at St. James's Hospital in Leeds on 5 July 1935, a certificate issued to Bottomley by the Central Midwives Board dated 20 November 1937 entitling Bottomley to practice as a midwife, a certificate issued to Bottomley by St. James's Hospital in Leeds dated 13 September 1936 confirming that Bottomley had passed her examinations in surgical and medical nursing, and an obstetric cases pupil midwife notebook used by Bottomley when working as a pupil midwife in St. James's Hospital between 1936 and 1937.
