Dr Fowler trained in Leeds in the 1890s and worked at Leeds General Infirmary and the Leeds 'House of Recovery', later becoming the Superintendent at the new Seacroft Hospital in 1904. These were isolation hospitals to treat people with infectious diseases. He married the matron from Seacroft, Miss Gamble, and later they moved to Burley where he set up a GP practice. He was also in the Royal Army Medical Corps in the First World War and was District Medical Officer for Leeds. Fowler's son George was also a House Surgeon at Leeds Dispensary and served in the Royal Army Medical Corps during the Second World War.
