Alexander Robinson was born in Esholt in January 1915 and educated at Esholt Church of England School and Salt Boys' High School, Shipley. After working as an apprentice to W. Rimmington Limited, he qualified as a pharmacist from Bradford Technical College in 1937 and worked in pharmacists for 60 years. He served in the Second World War in the Army Intelligence Corps and after the war ended he acquired his own pharmacy in Leeds which he ran between 1949 and 1978.
The collection consists of Robinson's notebooks from Technical College Bradford, where Robinson studied to become a pharmacist, and a manuscript by Robinson titled 'A Sorcerer's Apprentice: Pharmacy in pre-war Shipley'.

Scope and content
Three notebooks and one manuscript. The notebooks were compiled by Robinson while as a student at Technical College Bradford. The notebooks are titled 'Practical Pharmaceutical Chem 1', 'Practical Pharmacy 2 - Galenicals', and 'Practical Pharmacy Dispensing'. The manuscript, typed by Robinson, is an account of how he became a pharmacist.
