An Almanack for the year 1858 owned by David Taylor, herbalist, which contains recipes such as Brass Polish, and Asthmatic Cough Syrup and remedies for ailments such as Vomiting Blood, Cankers, Sores and Thrush.The Almanack contains Taylor's employment history, with record of yearly earnings, accounts records and a page dedicated to the ages of his sons and the years they were born.
Additional papers include a record of who donated the item, previous research into David Taylor and his family, a photocopy of a page from Leeds Directory which shows the address of his herbalist store and two folded pieces of paper from within a wallet at the front of the book, these are: a small handwritten note titled 'For Rheumatic Pain' and a potential cut out from a newspaper or magazine which details recipes for the 'Correct Mode of Making Sweets', 'Useful Employments', 'Baker's Pastry', 'Ham Curing' and 'To Manufacture Good and Cheap Pickles'.
