Annie Charlesworth was admitted to the General Nursing Council for England and Wales in 1935, and the following year, was permitted to practice as a midwife, after training to become a nurse at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. Charlesworth was appointed as a Queen’s Nurse in 1941, and worked as a midwife until retirement in 1966. In 1959 she was invited to attend a review of district nurses by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother to mark the centenary of district nursing.
The collection consists of Charlesworth’s midwife registers (access is restricted), personal papers, badges, certificates and books and journals compiled by Charlesworth.
