Annie Charlesworth was admitted to the General Nursing Council for England and Wales in 1935, and the following year, was permitted to practice as a midwife, after training to become a nurse at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. Charlesworth was appointed as a Queen’s Nurse in 1941, and worked as a midwife until retirement in 1966. In 1959 she was invited to attend a review of district nurses by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother to mark the centenary of district nursing.
