David William Currie was born in 1903 in Leeds, and was educated at Leeds Grammar School and Leeds University. He married Jean Brothwik Keppie in 1932 and had three children.
Currie served as house surgeon at Leeds General Infrimary to Joseph Dobson and E.R. Flint, and then was a resident casualty officer for two years. He studied to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons on a course at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London in 1930, and that same year was appointed junior house surgeon at Leeds Maternity Hospital, later senior resident in charge. From 1932-1936 Currie was a university lecturer in gynaecology and senior lectturer until he retired in 1968.

Scope and content
A twelve-page report compiled by David W. Currie, titled 'Figures of interest concerning the radical operation for the treatment of carcinoma of the cervix of the uterus'. The report contains an analysis of cases of carcinoma of the cervix treated since 1935, classification as to the cause of death, deaths of intercurrent diseases, anaylsis of treatment undertaken by Currie, classification of treatments.
