Volume begins with pedigree of the D'Akenny, Dakeynes and Deakin families from around 1433. Then, notes begin by John Deakin covering: heat; combustion; conduction; expansion; radiatio; reflection; vaporisation; mercurial and differential thermometers; Galvanism; elements like chlorine, sililcone, nitrogen, carbon and potassium; vomiting and retching; digitalis; rheum; scammony; alves; astringents; syphilis and secondary syphilis; on the veins on the arm; local bleeding; leeching; antimony; preparations of morphia and alum. There is an additional section at the back concerning: opium doses; oils, decoctions and infusions; tinctures, liquors; soaps; water baths; sand baths; preparations of vegetables; anatomy of the abdomen; barks; gum resins; the intestines; liver; peritoneum; spleen; heart; bronchi; trachea; mucous membranes. Later notes have doodles amongst the writing. Six flower petals pressed into the blank pages towards the back of the volume.
