Extract from a letter from John Kirkup in 'Hospital Doctor', 30th September 1993. "This saw was designed for resection of diseased surfaces of joints to avoid amputation. Operations were performed through small incisions made on either side of the joints. Joint resection with a standard amputation saw needed a much wider approach. Thus, this saw was associated with an early concept of less invasive surgery."
