'ORTHO' BRAND CONTRACEPTIVE DIAPHRAGM, COIL SPRING, SIZE 70, IN CARD BOX, (x 2)

Labels
The diaphragm is one of the oldest contraception methods. It is a circular dome covered in spermicide which is inserted into the vagina before intercourse to cover the cervix (opening of the womb). Ortho pharmaceutical, known for its contraceptive products, introduced the first coil spring diaphragm in the USA in the 1940s, where it became the most popular contraceptive method. However, diaphragms have become less popular over recent years, as they are not found to be as reliable as the contraceptive pill or IUD (intrauterine device). This example is undated, but is made from rubber.
