Mrs Winslow's Soothing Syrup contained large quantities of morphine, and counted alcohol among its other ingredients. First marketed in 1845, it became widely-used more more than 60 years. It was denounced as a 'baby killer' in 1911 by the American Medical Association and is believed to have caused numerous deaths, but remained available until the 1930s.
