This poster is part of a series of blood recruitment posters created by National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS). The graphic design reflects 1950s British commercial art with its blocks of colour and illustrations. This blood donation poster is more directed towards middle-class families who would leave the UK during bank holidays and summer periods. It encourages them to make donations prior to the holiday, because certain travel restrictions can prohibit you from donating blood for six months to a year on your return. This is important, as blood stocks have always fallen around travel periods as a consequence of these restrictions.
