Cooper Rose vaccinator and spatula, all metal

Labels
The Cooper Rose vaccinator was produced by Down Brothers (Ltd.) in response to the 1853 Vaccination Act. Under this act, vaccination against smallpox became compulsory, triggering the production of vaccinators by a series of medical instrument companies.

Among the greatest advocates of the Cooper Rose vaccinator was Dr Henry Renney, the 'Public Vaccinator' of Sunderland. He reportedly carried a Cooper Rose vaccinator on his person, along with sufficient antiseptic to vaccinate nine individuals.
