This drug was developed in the 1950s as a chemotherapeutic agent for the treatment of Hodgkin lymphoma, as well as for the control of polycythaemia vera (a rare blood cancers that affects bone marrow). However, the drug was discontinued after evidence surfaced that several patients being treated with it developed bladder cancer or abmornal cells in the urinary tract.
